Shopping Season

If you live in the Norwood, MA area, be sure to check out all of the new vintage and antique shops which have taken over the old warehouses on Endicott St.
Some of them have great stuff for great prices, and it is marvelous to see these big beautiful lofty warehouse spaces being used again! A great place to pick up a unique gift or two!

Nest will have a booth at Vintage Thymes, which is open once a month for 3 days.
The next market weekend is Friday Dec 7th thru Sunday December 9th. Shop vintage! Save the World.

And if you cannot make it to the market and have interest in any of the items you see pictured - like my FAB burlap Farmers Market Bags!!! - please let me know! Call, email, or leave a comment.
Boy, would a bag like that make a GREAT gift, or what?!

Dining Room Re-Do

More before and afters. This time a recently completed Dining Room.
                                                      Quite a transformation!

Before

After: same angle. Wallpapered ceiling!
Love it, Live it! I told you I'm a fan.

Before

After: Metallic paint, custom stain on floor.
And what's a room without zebra fabric, I ask you.

Before
oops there goes another fiddle fig, oops there goes another fiddle fig.......
(Hello? Does anyone know that song? Is this thing on?)

24 October 2012

I am told I don't blog enough (completely true) and I don't publish my work enough (also true). Perhaps if I show more of these it will go some way in explaining why I don't blog enough ~ I am working on these client spaces! I tend to be a perfectionist where my Interior Design work is concerned, and hesitate to publish photos that are not yet perfectly styled. I am trying to get over myself. Here is another before and after.

BEFORE: A powder room in need of a face lift.

AFTER: Better, yes?

Reality Check: Part 2

Back in March I had posted a few before photos of a residential project that has since been completed. I thought I would share a couple of my before and after shots.
I will be having this professionally shot soon, and will share the styled, pro shots then. In the mean time, enjoy!

Before: a bit dark, a bit dated, not reflective of the energetic young
family who live here
The Living Room in primarily used for entertaining, quiet reading, cocktails.
TV viewing is elsewhere.

After: Brightened up, modernized, de-cluttered.

Four chairs instead of the expected sofa combo

We also re-did the Dining Room. Stay tuned for those before and afters as well!

Brimfield in September: Come One, Come All!

Come find......something vintage, softly used. Something wooden, something metal, some china, some silver. Come find something old....made new. Something borrowed, painted blue. Come find the perfect table, the garden bench, the old bed, the great bowl. Come.....find.

For the second time, I have partnered with my great friend, fellow designer, and photo stylist extraordinaire Kelly Mcguill (click on Kelly's name to see her amazing, creative, and inspiring work) for a booth at the Brimfield Antique show and Flea Market. If you have never been to Brimfield, think of the best yard sale/flea market/antique shops you have ever attended, mix them up and then expand the result X1000.
Held 3 times a year in tents and booths and fields for miles along Rte 20, it is a place to explore, imagine, remember your past, and pick up a fab item or two.
We will have items for sale from our work: props from photo shoots, pieces from Interior Design clients, things we have found along the way and couldn't resist.

We will be at the Dealers Choice field on Tuesday, September 4th in BOOTH #55.

Here are some shots of our booth last September. Great stuff, right?!?

Clever Display

I saw this genius display at Anthropologie recently - but, really, ALL of their in- store displays are genius. So creative and inspiring. This one was an old metal bed (or possibly cot) frame, hung horizontally and used as a pin/message/inspiration/calendar board.  One of those "Why have I not thought of that?" moments.

I've attached a few more ideas in the same vein. I'm always all for out-of-the-ordinary design, and if combines with storage, even better!

Reality Check

I thought I would share some "before" and "during" pics of a current project I am working on. I think it's important to include real life design on my blog, in addition to the fantasy pictures we all drool over and dream about. This project includes some outside-the -box design choices, such as wallpapered ceilings, painted floors, and a few others. I will post the "after" when it is complete!

Two shots of the Living Room before. Very traditional, a bit dated and not at all reflective of the young, energetic family who lives here.
We are on our way! A beautiful BM paint color, "Gray Mirage" on the walls, and a fabulous grass cloth wallpaper on the back of the bookcases. The same grass cloth covers this custom made console destined for the finished room:

Here is the Dining Room before:

Again, very dated, too full of items so that the beautiful old architecture (the house is 300 years old!)
and the original pine floors cannot be seen or enjoyed.

Here is the wallpapered ceiling. Not much else done in here yet, but stay tuned. The floor has been stained a custom color (no pic yet) and those dark beams will be painted out. A surprise on the walls...
I'll keep you updated! Let me know what you think......
